Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 13 August 2026

These Terms & Conditions apply to appointments and services provided by Mane Artistry by Jay ("I", "me", "my" or "Jay").

By making a booking, you agree to these Terms & Conditions and the Booking & Cancellation Policy and Patch Test & Treatment Policy.

1. About the business

Mane Artistry by Jay is a mobile hair colouring business providing services in and around Hertfordshire and London.

I travel to clients' homes for appointments. The exact service area and any applicable travel charges will be discussed before your appointment is confirmed.

For enquiries, please contact:

Email: hello@maneartistry.co.uk

2. Consultations

A free consultation is available before booking where appropriate.

During a consultation, we will discuss your hair, colour history, desired result, suitability of the requested service and the approximate time and cost involved.

Please provide accurate information about your hair and any previous colour or chemical treatments where asked. This helps me assess what can safely and realistically be achieved.

Colour results can vary depending on the condition, history, texture and previous treatments of your hair. Where a particular result cannot reasonably or safely be achieved in one appointment, I will explain this during your consultation.

3. Booking and deposits

A 25% deposit is required to secure an appointment.

Your appointment date and time are not confirmed until the deposit has been received. Until then, the requested slot may be offered to another client.

The deposit is deducted from your final balance.

Booking and payment arrangements may be managed through third-party platforms such as Fresha and, in future, Squarespace or associated payment services.

4. Payment

The remaining balance is due immediately at the end of your appointment.

Payment can be made by cash, card or bank transfer, subject to the payment methods available at the time.

The final price may vary from an initial estimate where additional time, products or services have been agreed during the appointment.

Any additional charges will be discussed with you before they are incurred wherever reasonably possible.

5. Travel and mobile appointments

Appointments take place at the client's home or another agreed location.

Services outside the standard service area may be available by prior arrangement and may incur an additional travel charge based on the distance travelled.

Any applicable travel charge will be discussed before the appointment is confirmed.

6. Preparing your home

Because this is a mobile service, you are responsible for providing a suitable space for the appointment.

I will need:

  • Access to a suitable plug socket for electrical equipment

  • Access to a sink and running water for washing bowls, brushes and equipment

  • A suitable stool or chair at an appropriate working height

  • Sufficient space to move around and carry out the service safely

You will generally wash your own hair using your shower or bath as required.

Please ensure the working area is reasonably clean, accessible and suitable for the service before I arrive.

7. Pets and other people in the home

Pets must be friendly and must not present a risk to me, themselves or anyone else during the appointment.

If there is any concern about a pet's behaviour or safety, you must disclose this before the appointment. I may ask for the pet to be kept out of the room or, where necessary, removed from the property for the duration of the appointment.

If a safe working environment cannot be provided, I may need to stop or cancel the appointment.

You are welcome to move around, stretch or get up during a long appointment as needed, provided this does not interfere with the service being carried out.

8. Appointment duration

Hair appointments can take several hours depending on the service, your hair and the desired result.

I will give you an estimated appointment duration before your booking wherever possible.

Estimated timings are not guaranteed, as colour services can take longer depending on the individual circumstances of your hair.

9. Colour services and suitability

I reserve the right to decline or modify a service where I believe the requested treatment is unsuitable, unsafe or unlikely to produce a reasonable result.

This may include situations involving the condition of the hair, previous chemical treatments, colour history or the results of a required patch test.

Where reasonably possible, I will discuss alternative options with you.

10. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Providing accurate information during your consultation

  • Following any pre-appointment instructions

  • Completing any required patch test within the required timeframe

  • Informing me of any relevant changes before your appointment

  • Providing a safe and suitable working environment

  • Providing reasonable access to the agreed appointment location

Failure to provide required information or a suitable environment may result in the service being altered, postponed or cancelled.

11. Corrections and concerns

If you have any concerns about your service, please contact me within 7 days of your appointment.

If the result does not reflect what was agreed during your consultation, I will be happy to discuss the issue with you and, where appropriate, arrange a suitable correction.

A correction is intended to address an issue with the agreed service. If you simply decide that you would prefer a different colour, style or result after your appointment, this is considered a change of preference rather than a correction.

Any additional service, time or products required in these circumstances may be charged accordingly.

Corrections may not be possible where the hair has been altered after the appointment by another stylist, salon or by you. This includes box dye, home colour, cutting your hair, at-home treatments or other DIY adjustments.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory consumer rights.

12. Cancellations

Our cancellation and rescheduling requirements are set out in the Booking & Cancellation Policy.

These policies are subject to your statutory consumer rights.

13. If Jay needs to cancel

In the unlikely event that I need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, I will contact you as soon as reasonably possible.

Where I cancel an appointment and cannot provide a suitable alternative, any deposit paid for that appointment will be refunded.

14. Changes to these terms

I may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.

The version applicable to your booking will be the version provided or made available to you when the booking is confirmed.

Booking Policy

Last updated: 13 August 2026

Booking & deposits

A 25% deposit is required to secure your appointment.

Your date and time are not confirmed until the deposit has been received and may be offered to another client in the meantime.

The deposit will be deducted from your final appointment balance.

Cancellations & rescheduling

At least 48 hours' notice is required if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

If you cancel or reschedule with at least 48 hours' notice, your deposit can either be refunded or transferred to your new appointment date.

If you cancel or reschedule with less than 48 hours' notice, the deposit may be retained to cover the time and preparation reserved for your appointment.

If you do not attend your appointment without prior notice, the deposit will generally be retained.

If exceptional circumstances prevent you from providing the required notice, please contact me as soon as possible. These situations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

These provisions do not affect any cancellation rights you may have under applicable consumer law.

If you have concerns about your service

If you have any concerns about your hair following your appointment, please get in touch within 7 days.

If the result does not reflect what was agreed during your consultation, I will be happy to discuss the issue with you and, where appropriate, arrange a suitable correction.

If you simply decide that you would prefer a different colour, style or result after your appointment, this is considered a change of preference rather than a correction.

Any additional service, time or products required may be charged accordingly.

Corrections may not be possible where the hair has been altered after the appointment by another stylist, salon or by you.

This includes box dye, home colour, cutting your hair, at-home treatments or other DIY adjustments.

All corrections are considered individually and are subject to the condition and suitability of the hair.

Treatment Policy

Last updated: 13 August 2026

Patch testing

A patch test is required where specified by the products, manufacturers or professional requirements applicable to your treatment.

A patch test is designed to help identify a potential reaction to the products that may be used during your appointment.

Having received a similar colour service previously does not necessarily mean that a new patch test is unnecessary. Sensitivities can develop over time.

You must complete any required patch test within the timeframe provided to you before your appointment.

If a patch test is not completed

If a required patch test has not been completed within the required timeframe, the colour service cannot go ahead.

The appointment may need to be cancelled or rearranged.

Where an appointment cannot proceed because a required patch test has not been completed, the applicable cancellation and deposit terms will apply, subject to your statutory consumer rights.

During your consultation

I may ask questions about your hair history and previous treatments to determine whether a service is suitable.

Please answer these questions honestly and accurately.

This can include information about previous colour, bleach, chemical treatments, home colouring or other treatments that may affect the outcome or condition of your hair.

During your appointment

I may decide to alter, postpone or decline a treatment if I believe it would be unsafe or unsuitable based on the condition of your hair, the consultation, patch-test result or any other relevant circumstances.

I will discuss this with you wherever reasonably possible.

Hair condition and colour history

Colour services are affected by the existing condition and history of your hair.

Previous colour, bleach, box dye, henna, chemical treatments and home treatments can affect what can safely and realistically be achieved.

I cannot guarantee a particular colour result where the condition or history of the hair makes that result unsuitable or unpredictable.
